Why Get a Second Opinion?

A kitchen can look beautiful on screen and still leave you with a refrigerator door that won't open fully, too little room to pass behind the island, or nowhere to set a hot pan beside the range. These details can be easy to overlook in a rendering and costly to change later.

With more than 30 years of combined kitchen design and project experience, our founders have seen the same avoidable mistakes slip through the cracks. Design Glance brings that experience to your plan, helping you spot potential issues before they become everyday frustrations. Our job is to give you an honest, expert second opinion, so you can move forward with confidence.

We’re 100% independent: no product sales, no commissions, and no payment from whoever drew your plan. Our only revenue is the review you buy from us.

What actually goes wrong

Seven questions from our review checklist. Every one is a mistake we've seen reach installation.

  • Is the aisle where you actually stand and work (between your counters, island, or range and any facing cabinets) at least 42 inches wide?

Work-aisle widths below the 42" guideline minimum

  • Have you checked that your refrigerator, dishwasher, and oven doors can all open fully, without hitting an island, a wall, or each other?

    Possible appliance door conflicts

  • Is there counter space right next to your refrigerator, and on both sides of your range?

Missing appliance landing space (guideline landing zones)

  • Can you move between your sink, stove, and refrigerator without anything blocking the path, and without walking more than a few steps?

Work zones / traffic flow concerns

  • Does your plan include a trash pullout near the sink, and drawers (not just door cabinets) where you'll prep food?

Storage gaps: trash pullout / prep-zone drawers

  • Do you know your exact ceiling height, and that your tall cabinets, crown molding, and hood will fit under it?

Ceiling height / tall cabinet fit unverified

  • If you're installing new flooring, has your plan accounted for the height change, especially under the dishwasher and refrigerator?

Flooring height change not accounted for

The Case for a Second Look

Why a second set of eyes helps

Your original designer knows the project. A second reviewer brings a different perspective and a focused look at function, fit, and the details that are easier to change while they are still on paper.

A fresh perspective

After you have looked at the same plan many times, some assumptions become easy to overlook. A new reviewer approaches the drawing without the history and can notice different details.

Dedicated review time

Choosing cabinets, finishes, appliances, pricing and ordering involves a lot of decisions. A second opinion creates a separate step focused only on reviewing the plan.

How the kitchen works every day

We look beyond whether cabinets fit on the page. We consider how doors open, where you set things down, how people move through the room, and whether storage supports the way you use the kitchen.

The details around the products

A 3D rendering does not always show everything that affects function. Appliance doors and handles, fillers, panels, countertop edges and nearby walls can all change how the finished kitchen feels.

One clear job

Design Glance does not sell the products in your plan. Our role is to review the design, explain what is worth another look, and give you practical feedback to discuss with your kitchen designer.

The point is not to start over. It is one more professional look at the plan before you make a major purchase.

Problems Worth Catching on Paper

What can show up too late

A plan can look finished and still hide a detail that is hard to see until cabinets and appliances are installed. These examples show the kinds of issues a second review is designed to catch.

1

Cabinet meets a window

A cabinet is positioned too close to an existing window or opening, creating a conflict that may not be obvious in the presentation view.

What we look for: We compare cabinet locations with the windows, doors and openings shown on the plan.

2

The refrigerator fits, but the door does not

The refrigerator fits its opening, but a nearby wall, panel, counter or island limits how far the door or freezer drawer can open.

What we look for: We look at appliance placement and the space needed to use doors and drawers.

3

Not enough usable counter space

There is plenty of countertop overall, but not where it is most useful for unloading groceries, preparing food or setting down hot items.

What we look for: We look at counter space in relation to the refrigerator, sink, cooking area and prep zones.

4

Upper cabinets crowd countertop appliances

The space between the counter and the upper cabinets works on the drawing but does not leave enough room for the appliances you actually want to use there.

What we look for: We look at the dimensions shown on the plan and flag areas worth checking against your specific appliances.

5

A corner is harder to use than expected

Doors, drawers or adjacent cabinets can make a corner awkward to reach into, even when everything technically fits.

What we look for: We look for door and drawer interactions, and for opportunities to make that storage more practical.

6

The layout adds unnecessary steps

The major work areas are spread out, or arranged in a way that makes everyday cooking less convenient than it could be.

What we look for: We consider how the sink, refrigerator, cooking area, prep space and traffic paths work together. The kitchen work triangle is a useful starting point, not a rule. Where it applies, your reviewer checks the relationship between sink, range and refrigerator against industry standards, and says plainly when it is the wrong frame.
