One of the best British printmakers of the first half of the 20th century, C.R.W. Nevinson (1889–1966) was respected by both his contemporaries and current viewers. Nevertheless, despite his well-deserved fame, little about his exceptional printmaking career has been published until now. Nevinson started making prints in 1916 and didn't stop until 1932 owing to poor health. He created 148 prints during this time, each of which exhibited his unique vision and exceptional printmaking abilities. His corpus of work, which offers historical and sociological insights, is outstanding in its diversity; photographs showing the atrocities of the First World War coexist with striking cityscapes that show Nevinson's own vision of Paris, New York, and London. This exceptional resource, which draws on original archival research and features a catalogue raisonné of Nevinson's prints, is a major book in the body of knowledge about this remarkable British modernist. It is a vital reference guide for anyone who buys, sells, or studies Nevinson's prints, and it also gives those with a general interest in the artist and the era in which he produced his work much-needed context.
