In this lovely collection, David Hockney presents Stanley and Boodgie, his two Dachshunds.

These paintings and drawings are the products of acute observation and affection. The narrative by the artist offers a peek of how to work with models who don't always want to sit still.

"I started painting and drawing my pets in September 1993. Planning was necessary because dogs typically don't find art interesting (I say generally only because I have now come across a singing dog). Their lives are dominated by food and love.

I'm not sorry for the obvious topic matter. My pals are these two adorable little creatures. They are funny, affectionate, smart, and frequently bored. They observe me at work, and I take note of the cozy forms they create together, as well as their joy and despair. Additionally, being Hollywood dogs, they somehow appear to be aware that a movie is being produced.
