Insiders/Outsiders: Refugees from Nazi Europe and their Contribution to British Visual Culture explores the incredibly rich and widespread contributions made by refugees from a Europe dominated by the Nazis to the visual culture, art school, and art-world systems of the UK. In every discipline, European immigrants who arrived in the UK in the 1930s, assisted by a small group of like-minded people already living there, brought professionalism, internationalism, and strong avant-gardism to a British art scene that was not previously known for these qualities.

The book serves as a reminder of the value of cultural exchange and the substantial, long-lasting, and wide-ranging contributions that refugees make to British culture at a time when the topic of immigration is hotly disputed.
