"The Cherry Blossoms are about beauty, life, and death," says the author. They're out of the ordinary—almost garish in their appearance. As if Jackson Pollock had been corrupted by love. They're decorative, but they're natural. They're about desire, how we perceive the things around us, and what we make of them, but they're also about the amazing visual transience of beauty—a tree in full crazy flower against a clear sky." —David Hockney

Damien Hirst worked on the 107 enormous paintings that compose the Cherry Blossoms series for two years, between 2018 and 2019. In his London studio, he used broad brushstrokes and gestural painting components to reference Impressionism, Pointillism, and Action Painting.

Damien Hirst's Cherry Blossoms (Hardback). This book brings together all of the Cherry Blossoms through 250 color reproductions and numerous details, 18 foldouts, and contributions from Emanuele Coccia, Philippe Costamagna, Michio Hayashi, and Gilda Williams for the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris (shown from July 6, 2021 to January 2, 2022). Alberto Manguel's anthology of texts presents a literary analysis of the theme of cherries and cherry blossoms. This series catalogue raisonné is a tribute to painting, an absorption in this magnificent work.
