One of the most accomplished British sculptors of his period was Lynn Chadwick (1914–2003). In order to commemorate Chadwick's centenary in 2014, this indispensable illustrated catalogue raisonne of his sculpture is being released in a new, fourth edition. It includes a new illustrated listing of his lithographs and jewelry, new reproductions of many of his sculptures (including some in color), a completely new page design, and the most recent catalog information on his work. After the Second World War, Chadwick, who had started his work as an architectural draughtsman, switched to sculpting without any official instruction. He focused on making mobiles first, then welded structures, and finally bronzes. When he received the International Prize for Sculpture at the Venice Biennale in 1956, he began to gain recognition on a global scale. His sculptures were always solidly founded in a profound grasp of the natural world, regardless of how abstract they occasionally became. He regularly worked in welded iron and was fascinated by human and animal shapes. Along with the completely illustrated entire catalogue of his sculpture, this useful reference book also includes thorough, updated lists of Chadwick's exhibits, the public collections in which he is included, and a full biography. The late Dennis Farr's opening article, which is based on interviews with the artist, explores Chadwick's growth as a sculptor and his sculptural methods. The catalogue notes have also been updated to include a helpful new description of Chadwick's bronze casts and foundries.
