Despite having a longstanding reputation as one of Britain's top potters, John Ward (b. 1938) has had virtually little written about him despite his numerous accomplishments. This first biography of Ward will be authoritative and illuminating, chronicling the development of his concepts and methods as a potter and situating them critically within the development of British Studio Pottery. It's challenging to pinpoint the best pots under Ward's standards. One of the most captivating characteristics of his art, according to the late Emmanuel Cooper, is its seeming contradiction between drama and quiet introspection, as he wrote in 1996.
